Even as a child, MARY AU was an unabashed lover of music as well as of food. Her mission is to make classical music part of the fabric of everyday life, in settings where both audience and artist can share in the joy of live music.

I am a very lucky person who gets to make a living doing something that I am passionate about: making music. My close friends also know that my other passion is FOOD. Mary playing with Ruslan at LACMA

2011 has brought new surprises:

I have been named an ACME Honoree by Mu Phi Epsilon and called to serve as co-chair of ACME with my wonderful Faces of Eve collaborator, the beautiful coloratura soprano Arietha Lockhart.

I finally performed the first two pieces of a Wine Suite by the great composer David Lefkowitz. This marks the beginning of my commitment to perform a program of music with "food and wine" theme.

I started taking Tai Chi lessons with James Wing Woo. This makes my participation in a program titled Zen, Tai Chi, and the Double Bass with double bassist Tony Grosso even more meaningful. I discovered that there are a lot of similarities between the disciplines of piano playing and Tai Chi. I am also pleasantly surprised to find out that Tai Chi and Chopin go so well together (Tony demonstrates Tai Chi while I perform Chopin.)

2011-2012 season continues to bring exciting opportunities. I am grateful that God has blessed me with engagements with different collaborators performing works by old masters as well as contemporary composers. Hope to see some of you at these recitals:

  • Performance with cellist Boris Andrianov on Classical Underground (November 2011)
  • Faces of Eve 2 recital will premiere in New York City (March, 2012)
  • Performance of works including world premieres by living composers such as Lera Auerbach, Chen Yi, Jennifer Higdon, Sharon Willis, Mary Badarak, Lydia Busler-Blais, Mary Boyle, David Lefkowitz, Deon Price, Adrienne Albert, Carol Worthey, among others.

My search for "food and wine" themed music for recording and performances continues. If you know of such music, please feel free to drop me a line.
