Even as a child, MARY AU was an unabashed lover of music as well as of food. Her mission is to make classical music part of the fabric of everyday life, in settings where both audience and artist can share in the joy of live music.

I am a very lucky person who gets to make a living doing something that I am passionate about: making music. My close friends also know that my other passion is FOOD. Mary playing with Ruslan at LACMA

2009 has been a year of change. My dear father, who has been my greatest supporter and inspiration, has united with mommy in heaven. This has left a big void in my life, but daddy and mommy are never far away. My family and friends have been invaluable in their emotional support in a difficult time. Thanks to their support, I am left free to carry on the legacy that daddy and mommy have left: my life-long commitment to share my gift of music from God with audiences worldwide.

So far, 2009 has brought me to many exciting performances:

  • Performance at the Philippines Embassy in Washington DC with Xian Zhuo
  • Accompanying Master class Am I too Loud? in Santa Clara, CA
  • P? Performances with Ruslan Biryukov at the Nixon Library Family Concert Series, L’Ermitage Performing Arts Series, Los Olivos Schoolhouse Music Evenings Chamber Music Series, SFVC NA’AMAT Concert Series, various MPEIC concerts, Musicale for the Peninsula Committee for the Los Angeles Philharmonic and the Long Beach Auxiliary of the Los Angeles Philharmonic, among others.
  • Trio performances with Alan Busteed (violin), Ruslan Biryukov (cello) as Trio del Mar, and Limor Toren-Immerman (violin) and Ruslan Biryukov (cello) as Alto Polis Trio.

Spirit of America flyerExciting upcoming performances include:

I am grateful for each of my performances with performers I have been honored to work with. I look forward to performing some of the most challenging and beautiful works, especially for cello and piano, in the years to come. Hope to see some of you at these recitals.

My search for "food and wine" themed music (e.g. Leonard Bernstein's Recipe Cycle for Soprano and Piano), and pieces for cello and piano by living composers for recording and performances continues. If you know of such music, please feel free to drop me a line.
