Even as a child, MARY AU was an unabashed lover of music as well as of food. Her mission is to make classical music part of the fabric of everyday life, in settings where both audience and artist can share in the joy of live music.

I am a very lucky person who gets to make a living doing something that I am passionate about: making music. My close friends also know that my other passion is FOOD. Mary playing with Ruslan at LACMA

2009 was a year of change. My dear father, who has been my greatest supporter and inspiration, has united with mommy in heaven. This has left a big void in my life, but daddy and mommy are never far away. My family and friends have been invaluable in their emotional support in a difficult time. Thanks to their support, I am left free to carry on the legacy that daddy and mommy have left: my life-long commitment to share my gift of music from God with audiences worldwide.

So far, 2009 has brought me to many exciting performances:

  • Performance at the Philippines Embassy in Washington DC with Xian Zhuo
  • Accompanying Master class Am I too Loud? in Santa Clara, CA
  • Performances and concert tours with Ruslan Biryukov
  • Trio performances with Alan Busteed (violin), Ruslan Biryukov (cello) as Trio del Mar, and Limor Toren-Immerman (violin) and Ruslan Biryukov (cello) as Alto Polis Trio.
  • Performances and concert tours with Ruslan Biryukov
  • Chamber music performances with Alan Busteed (violin), Ruslan Biryukov (cello) as Trio del Mar, Limor Toren-Immerman (violin) and Ruslan Biryukov (cello) and Edgar Sandoval (violin) and Ruslan Biryukov (cello) as Alto Polis Trio.
  • Massachusetts Concert tour with Evan Drachman under the sponsorship of the Piatigorsky Foundation
  • Gershwin's Rhapsody in Blue with the Maestro Sylvia Lee Mann and the West Covina Symphony
  • Beethoven's Triple Concerto with the Bellflower Symphony with cellist Ruslan Biryukov, violinist Limor Toren and Maestro Joseph Taylor

concert flyerExciting 2010 performances include:

  • Recital titled Faces of Eve presented by Greenwich House Arts on the Womens? Work Concert Series at the Renee Weiler Concert Hall in New York City, NY. Collaborators include Arietha Lockhart (soprano), Berkeley Price (Clarinet) and Jordan James (horn) performing works by 11 contemporary female composers.
  • East Meets West: Music Without Borders, a lecture recital on the Chinese Garden Lecture Series presented by the Huntington Library, Art Collections, and Botanical Gardens. Lecture will feature music by Chinese American composers Chen Yi and Zhou Tian and American composers Deon Price, Adrienne Albert and Carol Worthey. Au will be joined in peroformance by cellists Xian Zhuo and Anna Cho, violinist Mingzhao Zhou, and clarinetist Berkeley Price.
  • Beethoven's Emperor Concerto with the West Covina Symphony Orchestra with Maestro Sylvia Lee Mann
  • Recital with Evan Drachman on the L'Ermitage Foundation Concert Series

I am grateful for each of my performances with artists I have been honored to work with. I look forward to performing some of the most challenging and beautiful works by contemporary composers as well as old masters in the years to come. Hope to see some of you at these recitals.

My search for "food and wine" themed music (e.g. Leonard Bernstein's Recipe Cycle for Soprano and Piano), and pieces for cello and piano by living composers for recording and performances continues. If you know of such music, please feel free to drop me a line.
